Grey Simpson Named Interim Head Track Coach

Woodberry is pleased to announce the appointment of Grey Simpson as interim head coach for both the winter indoor and spring outdoor track and field programs for the 2026–2027 season. Grey joins the science department faculty and will also serve as an advisor, dorm-duty member, and active member of campus life.

Grey brings twenty-five years of teaching, coaching, and leadership experience at independent and boarding schools, most recently at Scranton Preparatory School where he served as athletic director. Grey played Division I football at the College of the Holy Cross, where he earned a BA in chemistry, and later completed a master's in educational leadership at Florida Atlantic University. His coaching career has spanned football and basketball at schools including The Hill School and The Lawrenceville School, where he also served as a residential house leader.

Grey is eager to get to work with the program and the young men in it. “I am excited to return to the boarding school environment, where I spent so much of my career working with student-athletes both in and out of the classroom. I look forward to continuing to build a track program that not only develops dedicated track athletes, but also serves as a place where students from across Woodberry's athletic community can improve their speed, strength, competitiveness, and confidence in ways that benefit them in all of their pursuits.”

He steps into a program that Raymond Gee spent three years leading. Coach Gee, in his farewell to the program, captured it well: “It has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life to say, ‘I am the head track coach at Woodberry Forest.’ These young men have been introduced to success, but more importantly, they have learned what it takes to earn it.”

After three strong seasons under Coach Gee, the program is in good shape — and in good hands.
