Tribute Dinner Honors Dennis and Leesa Campbell

Dennis M. Campbell, the eighth headmaster of Woodberry Forest School, and his wife, Leesa, were honored at a festive tribute dinner May 9, 2014, on the school campus. Dennis will retire in June after seventeen years of leadership, during which he oversaw the education of more than one thousand young boys and the construction and renovation of numerous facilities. He also led two major and highly successful capital campaign efforts.

Highlights of the evening included a retrospective slide show and keepsake timeline commemorating the Campbells' time at Woodberry Forest, a performance by The Dozen, the school’s a cappella group, that included songs reflecting the Campbells' years in the education world, and remarks from each of the board chairmen under whom Dennis Campbell served. Miles Wynn ’05 offered an alumnus's perspective on the couple’s legacy.

In recognition of Dennis Campbell's contributions, US Congressmen Eric Cantor and Robert Hurt entered a letter of tribute into the Congressional Record, and the Woodberry Forest board of trustees bestowed upon the headmaster the J. Carter Walker Award, the school’s most prestigious honor.
