Varsity Football Rolls Over St. Albans

Woodberry Forest 37, St. Albans School 7.

Woodberry Forest and Saint Albans faced each other today at Johnson Stadium, and the cool temperature coupled with the chilly wind provided perfect football weather for the game. In the early minutes of the game, Rue Hockensmith recovered a fumble deep inside Saint Alban’s territory. Rue’s fumble recovery led to a Landrus Lewis five yard dash into the endzone off of a direct snap. On the following kickoff, Woodberry delivered a message when Ade Oyalowo forced another fumble deep inside Saint Alban’s territory. Phillip Rogers recovered the football for the tigers, and his recovery allowed Layton Brown to kick a twenty-five yard field goal. The Tigers extinguished all of Saint Alban’s hopes when Ed Reynolds returned a kickoff seventy-six yards for a touchdown on the very first play of the second half. Despite Woodberry’s commanding lead, Saint Albans refused to be shut out, and in the fourth quarter Saint Alban’s Seck Barry ran forty-three yards into the endzone for their only score of the day. Woodberry Forest remains undefeated at home this season.
