Lyons Gray to Speak to Woodberry Community

Mr. Gray is the Chief Financial Officer of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Washington, D.C. Prior to his service at the EPA, Mr. Gray was a member of the North Carolina General Assembly from 1989 until 2002, having served six consecutive terms. During his time in the General Assembly, he distinguished himself as one of North Carolina's most respected public servants. He was Chair of the House Finance Committee, Vice Chair of the Ethics Committee and Chair of the Forsyth County delegation. Through legislation he introduced and supported, Mr. Gray was a leading advocate for education and North Carolina humanities efforts. Following his service in the General Assembly, Mr. Gray was President of the Downtown Winston-Salem Partnership prior to going to the Environmental Protection Agency. Mr. Gray remains active in many public service roles in North Carolina and the nation. He is Vice Chairman of the Lettie Pate Whitehead Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides scholarship grants to 200 schools and colleges in the Southeastern U.S. Mr. Gray, and his wife Constance Fraser Gray, who will visit Woodberry with him tonight, live in Washington, D.C., Winston-Salem, N.C. and Roaring Gap, N.C. The Gray family has had a long relationship with Woodberry Forest School.
