    Duke Sherrell ’15 joined the Woodberry Admission office in 2022 after serving two years at Pace Academy in Georgia, where he taught history, coached football and wrestling, and served as the upper school diversity and inclusion coordinator. Mr. Sherrell earned his bachelor’s degree and a master’s of education in urban education at Rhodes College, where he also played football. He lives in the Dowd Pod apartment.

    Chase Spong ’10 serves as director of admission and tuition assistance. He holds a bachelor's degree in history from the College of William & Mary and a master's degree in education from Vanderbilt University. Mr. Spong, his wife, Winston, and two sons live in the New Faculty House #3.

    Tim Stakem, who holds the Bernard Mastership, directs the jazz band, the wind ensemble, and the pipe band and mentors varsity music students. A member of the faculty since 1994, Mr. Stakem has a BS from Frostburg State University and an MM from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette).  He and his wife Tracey, are the parents of two sons: Brenden ’18 and Aidan '23. The Stakems live in the Jackson House.

    Frazier Stowers ’04 serves as the co-dean of students for the 3rd and 4th forms and director of Woodberry Forest Sports Camp. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Middlebury College and a master’s degree from Georgetown University. He came to Woodberry in 2016 from Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland, where he taught English, coached baseball, and served as the upper school assistant principal. Mr. Stowers and his wife, Meghan, and their sons live in the Gray House.

    Bio
     
    Rachel Strahan joined the faculty in 2017 as assistant director of marketing and communications. She came to Woodberry Forest in 2014 as a graphic design assistant and has also served as an assistant coach for the varsity soccer team. She holds a BS in business administration and a BA in graphic design and digital imaging from High Point University. Ms. Strahan lives in Culpeper.

    A 2019 magna cum laude of Dickinson College in international relations, Spanish, and music, David also holds a M.A. in international relations from the University of Syracuse. David spent a year as a Fulbright Scholar in Spain after college and has worked at the US Army War College and the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. He comes to Woodberry most recently from the faculty at the Webb School in Bell Buckle, Tennessee, where he taught Spanish from 2022-2024. At Woodberry, David teaches Spanish and lives on B dorm.

    Raphael Sydnor '97 teaches Spanish and co-directs the Central American Study Abroad (CASA) summer program. He works with the WFS Outdoors and spring skeet teams. A member of the faculty since 2006, he earned a BA from Hampden-Sydney College, an MAT from Brown University, and an MA from Middlebury College. Mr. Sydnor and his wife, Sarah, Woodberry’s special events manager, live in the Duplex West with their three children.
