Art Exhibition Shows Daily Work

From the last week of March through April, Woodberry Forest School will be exhibiting the paintings of Charlottesville artist Matalie R. Deane. Much of the exhibition will be devoted to her creative program of making a work of art -- in media including oil, drawing, and watercolor -- every day of the year 2015. In 2016, she focused on creating larger watercolor paintings with a particular interest in narrative. Many of these large pieces are also included in the show.

Matalie R. Deane, a native of central Virginia, received a BS in Applied Art from James Madison University and did postgraduate work with several artists. She maintained her artistic practice through years of raising a family -- including Rob Deane ’05 -- and a career as a respiratory therapist; currently she is devoting her full attention to painting. Since 2000, Ms. Deane has exhibited in group and solo shows, been juried into shows in Maryland and Virginia, and has won several awards. In this exhibition at Woodberry Forest, titled Progression, the works on view reveal a new level of visual richness and heightened expression in her painting.
