JV Defeat St. Albans

A cool and overcast late summer afternoon provided the backdrop to a challenging contest against the Bulldogs—exactly the sort of game which this young Tiger squad needed as it begins to sort things out. The visiting Bulldogs mounted many attacks on the Tiger goal but fortunately for us they had trouble getting on target. Once again netminders Thomas Lee and Petey DuBose did an excellent job at the back, assisted by a stalwart group in front of them: Kevin Treacy, Matt LaVigne, Ryan Gingras, Josh Hilliary and Liam Hedge all took turns at the outside defender slots, while Sean Brown anchored the center, partnered by David Sloan and later by newcomer Lonwabo Mgoduso. Brown and midfielder Will Peak played the entire game. Justin Park and Nolan Day started up front, with Nolan later playing in the midfield. Harris Moye, Terry Tang, Alvaro Martin and Michell Nader took turns at center forward, and Kiefer McDowell, Kav Gillespie and Jack Ogburn saw action on the wings. The score was tied at the interval, but ten minutes from the end left midfielder Hawk Swearingen got free and crossed the ball to find Woody Scruggs open in the box, and he coolly scored the game’s only goal. Bronson Kieltyka played in the midfield and probably covered more territory than any other Tiger from the center midfield and wing positions.
