Varsity Football Defeats Benedictine

Woodberry Forest School

Varsity Football

Saturday October 24, 2009

Woodberry Forest 16, Benedictine 7.

Woodberry Forest defeated Benedictine in Richmond today. Though it did not rain the whole game, both teams had to deal with the downpour for a significicant amount of the game. Because of the rainy conditions, the Tigers chose to run the ball often, despite the fact that Ade Oyalowo, one of their star running backs, was taken out of the game in the first quarter because of an injury. The Tigers still managed to claim a victory without Ade today, however. Ed Reynolds almost had 200 rushing yards today, and Jeff Smith gained a respectable 48 yards on 14 carries. Though the rushing game was solid today, the Tigers struggled to put the ball in the end zone, placing a lot of pressure on the Tiger’s kicker, Layton Brown. However, Brown handled the pressure very well; he converted all three of his field goal attempts, and he led the Tigers to a much desired victory after last week’s heartbreaking loss to Landon.
