Varsity Football Comes Back for Win

Woodberry Forest School

Varsity Football

Saturday September 26, 2009

Woodberry Forest School 23, McDonogh 21.

The Woodberry Forest Tigers beat the McDonogh Eagles today in a nail-biter at Johnson Stadium at Hanes Field. When Ed Reynolds ran for a 59 yd TD on his first carry of the game, it appeared as though the Tigers had the game under control. However, on the next series, Rudy Johnson responded by throwing a 46 yard touchdown to Gabe Macis. Even in the rainy conditions, Johnson had a pretty good day throwing the football. At halftime McDonogh led the Tigers 21-9, and after a scoreless third quarter, the Eagles looked as though they had the game well under control. However, the Tigers kept fighting. Carlson Milikin and JT Hornyak had two crucial picks that gave the Tigers the momentum they needed to win. In response, Alex Hagood ran the ball in for a five yard score early in the fourth quarter. Woodberry’s next drive started on the McDonogh one yard line, after the ball was snapped over the punter’s head. On fourth and goal, Alex Hagood found Eliot Nelson in the end zone. The Tigers remain undefeated this season.
