JV Football Wins First Game of the Season

The JV football team kicked off our season with a 12-6 victory over FUMA.  The defense had a great first half and held FUMA to 1 first down.  Layton Brown came up with an interception in the first quarter.  The offense was able to move the chains and continued to give the Tigers the advantage in field position.  Special teams played a key role in the first half.  Ade Oyalowo returned a punt to the one yard line and then ran the ball in on the next play for Woodberry’s first score.  Later in the half, the punt return team came up big again and this time, with excellent blocking, Kyle Wheelock returned the kick 67 yards for a touch down to put the Tigers up 12-0.

In the second half FUMA put together a couple key runs and capped a 49 yard scoring drive with a 2 yard touchdown pass late in the third quarter.  Both defenses played well in the fourth quarter.  Evan Bozymski had an interception to help seal the game.  The offense continued to control the ball to run out the clock.

Ade finished the game with 120 yards rushing.  Layton Brown, Tyler Houston, Drew Arnett, and John Abutu led the defensive attack.
