Swimming falls to Saints

Woodberry Swimming lost a tough meet to St. Christopher’s today by a score of 84 – 102.  The meet was actually a lot closer than the score indicates. The difference was only 1.7 seconds spread out over four different races.  Woodberry was only able to win two events today, but our depth kept us in the hunt.  Brewer Matthews, George Lane-Roberts, Mark Peyton, and Harry Stephens teamed up to win the opening event, the 200 yard medley relay.  George also was our only individual winner of the day, and easily won the 100 breast.

The Tigers had 10 personal best times today.  Gavin Forrest came up with the big swim of the day dropping an amazing 5.11 seconds in the 200 individual medley while taking fourth place in the event.  Gavin’s time of 2:21.65 earned him his second state cut in as many meets.  Gavin also lowered his 100 free time by .31 seconds while leading off the 400 free relay.  Will Meese also posted two best times dropping 1.23 seconds in the 200 free and 2.45 seconds in the 500 free.  Other best times today were by Mitchell Moon (.04 seconds in the 50 back while leading off his medley relay), Jack Joynson (.88 seconds in the 200 free), George Lane- Roberts (.85 seconds 200 IM), Harry Stephens (.01 seconds in the 100 free), Brewer Matthews (.31 seconds in the 100 back), and Pearce Mayer (.65 seconds in the 100 back)

We were fortunate enough today to get to watch one of the best divers in the country, senior Daniel Dickerson from St. Christopher’s.  I believe Daniel has won states the past few years and is clearly the favorite to win the event again this year.  But I would also like to recognize our 3 divers, Jay Shelly, David Bethel and CB Rice.  These guys have worked hard all season learning new dives and have shown a lot of improvement.  This is the first year of diving for all three of them at Woodberry, and they deserve much credit.
