Woodberry swimming opened up the season with an outstanding effort and beat FUMA by a score of 101 - 83. More important than the win was how well everybody swam. It is very impressive for guys to be turning in times in December that are faster than their best times at the end of last season. Brewer Matthews was the star of the meet by winning both the 500 free and 100 back in personal best times. Saang Lee and Mark Peyton also swam best times while placing second in the 100 free and first in the 100 fly respectively.
Just about everybody on the team posted at least one best time, but the biggest improvement came from Andrew Duverney. Andrew just began swimming this fall and on the third day of school we timed him in the 100 freestyle at 2:35. Today Andrew swam the 100 free in 1:06.58. To put that in perspective, the winning time today of 49.42 was turned in by Will Trainor of FUMA who won states last year. At this rate, Andrew should break the world record by the end of January!
Saang, Gavin Forrest, Mark and Harry Stephens teamed up to win the opening 200 yard medley relay. The team of Daniel Hughes, John Moore, Tyson Chow and David Bethel finished third while Mitchell Moon, Daniel Wang, Greg West and John Ainsworth finished 5th.
