Varsity Golf Ties, Wins on Scorecard Playoff

The varsity golf team traveled to Army Navy Country Club in Fairfax this afternoon to take on Trinity Christian School, last year's Division II state champions.  The course played extremely difficult, as the team combatted high winds and firm, lightning-fast greens.  The golfers kept their composure and managed to gut out a team score of 157, led by Will Guthrie's outstanding score of 35 (-1).  Also counting towards the scoring were Wilson Harrell (38), Yates Harris (41), and George Griffin (43).  Trinity Christian's top 4 scores also totaled 157, so the match went to a scorecard playoff.  Hatch Britain was Woodberry's 5th score with a 46, but Trinity's 5th score was also a 46.  Frank Young came on strong at the end of the match and sealed a victory for Woodberry as the 6th score by shooting a 47, which was three shots better than Trinity's 6th score of 50.

Varsity golf returns to action on Thursday with two separate home matches: one against Covenant, and the other against Virginia Episcopal School.
