A New Tradition Begins: Woodberry Forest Celebrates the Inaugural Lake Fest

On a sun-soaked Saturday afternoon, the Woodberry Forest community came together at Robertson Lake for the inaugural Lake Fest — and by all accounts, it was a day worth waiting for.

Students, faculty, and families filled the lakefront with the kind of easy energy that only spring can produce. Canoes dotted the water, a fishing contest drew competitors young and old, and on shore, spirited rounds of cornhole, football, and inter-form Spikeball kept the afternoon moving. When the fishing was tallied, Easton Tuck '29 and JT Patick '29 claimed the top honors.

Dinner was provided courtesy of the Smoking Club, a student organization with a shared affinity for grilling and smoking meat. Preparation began at 2:00 a.m., when Marc Greenberg ’26, William Burris ’27, and Joshua Lord ’27 arrived at the lakefront to fire up the grills. Supported by Coard Benson ’26, Thomas McGetrick ’26, Ryker Simpson ’26, Taylor Goff ’27, and faculty member Mrs. Robertson, the group produced an extensive menu of brisket, pulled pork, and smoked ends. The Baking Club complemented the meal with banana pudding and cookies, while local food trucks provided additional refreshments.

The air was filled with music throughout the afternoon, thanks to performances by student bands Residence and Second Wind. Their live sets provided the perfect backdrop for the day.

Lake Fest was a reminder of the simple joy of life in the Forest. It was a day for the community to slow down, put away the screens, and enjoy the company of friends and family by the water.
