Sydney "Chip" Farrar ’04

Captain, United States Marine Corps
After graduating from the University of Mississippi I was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps. I graduated from The Basic School and Infantry Officers Course in 2009 and reported to 1st Battalion 7th Marines. In July 2010 I deployed on the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) with Battalion Landing Team 1/7  in support of Operation Enduring Freedom-Pacific. As an officer with 1/7 I served first as a weapons platoon commander and then as a rifle platoon commander.  In October 2011 I was screened by 4th Reconnaissance Battalion and transitioned to the Select Marine Corps Reserve.

I currently serve as a captain in the USMC Select Reserves as a platoon commander with 4th Recon Battalion, San Antonio, Texas. I was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal in 2011 for outstanding professional service.
