  • History of Virginia Prep League

Formed in 1966 with Episcopal High School, Collegiate Schools, Randolph-Macon Academy, Virginia Episcopal, Woodberry Forest, and St. Christopher's as the original members. The Virginia Prep League began with only four championship sports: football, cross country, basketball, and baseball.

The Virginia Prep League is comprised of schools that share a similar philosophy for interscholastic athletics. The League is a cooperative endeavor which seeks to recognize and promote sportsmanship and athletic excellence among its member schools, all of which view athletic competition as a building block for student-athletes to learn how to compete fairly and in a sportsmanlike-manner, while pursuing excellence. Member schools are committed to keeping a proper perspective on the role of sport in the overall educational experience, through athletics students are afforded the opportunity to learn to handle the pressure of competition and deal positively with both success and failure, while treating both of these outcomes as chances to learn.
