Welcome to Woodberry Forest School, an exceptional boarding community where motivated boys take the lead in pursuing an outstanding education.
Created in 1889 on a Virginia family farm by a couple who wanted to offer their six sons the best education possible, Woodberry has remained dedicated to offering boys what they need — a challenging academic program, extensive athletic options, and a wide variety of social and cultural opportunities in a warm and welcoming community.
At Woodberry, the cornerstone of excellence is our faculty. Each of our teachers brings a wide range of educational and life experiences to our classrooms, our playing fields, and the community at large. Deeply committed to teaching and learning, they help to shape the boys as citizens, leaders, fathers, and good men.
One of Woodberry’s most distinguished features is its residential character. All of our students and the vast majority of our faculty members reside on campus, where they benefit from living and working together. Our boys are guided by our teachers, many of whom also serve as dorm masters, as well as from student leaders known as prefects.
Ask any alumnus to recall the most valuable aspect of his Woodberry education, and he will likely mention our legendary honor system. More than a pledge not to lie, cheat, or steal, the honor system establishes Woodberry Forest as a community of trust where a boy is respected and taken at his word.
I first arrived at Woodberry in 1983 as a young boy in search of a better education and a life challenge. I got what I was looking for and so much more. Not only did I become a lifelong learner — I also had fun, taking advantage of the many activities available on this beautiful, 1,200-acre campus, from athletics to the arts, and building friendships based on trust that I continue to treasure.
I invite you to discover what I and generations of our alumni know: This is a wonderful place. Please take time to explore our website, and come to campus so you can experience Woodberry Forest firsthand. We look forward to welcoming you.
