New Exhibition Presents Paintings and Sculpture

In November and December, Woodberry Forest School features the work of two Virginia artists in the Baker Gallery of the Walker Fine Arts Center.

Renee Balfour lives in Earlysville and has a studio at the McGuffey Art Center in Charlottesville. In her paintings, she uses enlargements of plant forms to explore the transition from specific organic references to the realm of abstraction. Fred Crist, based in Waynesboro, is a master blacksmith and is the owner of FACrist Metalsmith. In his sculpture, he molds and shapes metal into totem-like structures and other abstract configurations, frequently finishing his forms with a covering of gold leaf.
