Swimming defeats Flint Hill

By JOE FISCHER

Saturday Woodberry swimming defeated the Flint Hill School, which was unfortunately much depleted due to illness, by a score of 103 - 51.  The Tigers took advantage of the opportunity to swim some off events and to allow some of the younger swimmers to compete.  The freshmen class stole the show with each swimmer posting personal best times.  Gavin Forrest led the way with outstanding swims in both the 200 individual medley and 100 free.  Gavin lowered his best time in the IM by nearly 5 seconds while placing third and also won the 100 freestyle with nearly a 1 second time improvement.  Unfortunately Gavin’s 100 free time just missed the state qualifying time by .02 seconds.  Jack Joynson took second in the 200 free while lowering his best time by nearly 6 seconds, and Greg West, 4th in the 100 fly, dropped 6 seconds.  Andrew Duverney took another 1.5 seconds off his 100 free time while placing fourth.  Mack Keasler, who was hoping to break 3:00 in the 200 free, took fourth with a great time of 2:43.97.  Mack also had a personal best time in the 100 free while leading off a 400 free relay.

Will Meese was the only double individual winner, winning both the 200 free and 100 back.  Other first place finishers included Mark Peyton in the 200 IM, John Moore in the 50 free, David Bethel in the 1 meter diving, and Jack James in the 100 fly with a personal best time. Tyson Chow was a member of the winning 200 medley relay and swam well while placing second in the 100 fly.  Mitchell Moon had two very good swims with best times in the 50 free and 100 back while taking fifth and fourth place respectively. The best swim of the day may have been turned in by John Ainsworth, second in the 500 free, who lowered his time by a remarkable 33 seconds.
