Construction Finished on Turner Hall

When you walk past Turner Hall, you’ll see that the large fence surrounding the dorm for about a year has disappeared, and the jackhammers and construction workers have cleared out. After undergoing the biggest renovation of the dorm since 1985, the work is all but complete. The only thing left to do is add furniture.

The dorm is going to have the same layout as it had before but with a new plumbing system, HVAC, and new technology added to make the dorm safer in case of an emergency, like a system in the faculty apartments that prevents active shooters from breaking in, and doors that can shut automatically if a fire alarm goes off.

“The hardest part of the construction was the mechanical coordination with the existing structure,” said Special Projects Manager David Clore (who is overseeing the construction). “When you're trying to fit new equipment and technology to buildings that were not originally designed for that, it is very difficult.”

The biggest change is the addition of the connector, which joins Turner and Taylor, effectively making it one dorm. “Both Taylor and Turner will house all third formers,” said Clore. “The connector will hold the bathrooms, washers, dryers, and common room for both dorms.”

Many Woodberry students have very fond memories of their time on Turner and Taylor and are excited about the possibility of living in the newly-renovated dorm.

“I loved my time on Turner my freshman year,” said Brayden Mitchell ’26. “Having the possibility of going back and mentoring boys like Keifer Adams ’23 was for me would be exciting.”

“The plan is to have boys in Turner for Sports Camp,” said Clore. This allows potential students to experience the nicest dorm Woodberry has to offer.

Clore, along with Chelsea and Lee (the construction firm that has overseen the work on Taylor and Turner), are now shifting their focus to the renovation of Terry, which will become the new Health Center.
