Chase Spong ’10 serves as director of admission and tuition assistance. He holds a bachelor's degree in history from the College of William & Mary and a master's degree in education from Vanderbilt University. Mr. Spong, his wife, Winston, and two sons live in the New Faculty House #3.

Makhail Anderson '19 serves as assistant director of admission. He holds a bachelor's degree in English from Wofford College. Most recently he was a public relations intern at the Southern Maryland Minority Chamber of Commerce in Waldorf, MD. Makhail lives in alker B Dorm Tower Apartment and does dorm duty in Walker.

Isabel Battista serves as a full time assistant director of admission. A native of Atlanta, she earned her bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in art history from the University of Virginia. She first came to Woodberry as an admissions intern in the summer of 2024 and returned after graduation to take on her current role, coordinating events, overseeing office operations, and working closely with prospective families. Her passion for admissions began at Pace Academy, where she was a student ambassador and discovered the joy of connecting with families. At UVA, she deepened that interest through leadership and service—as president of the student alumni
council and through internships with the UVA Alumni Association and the Corcoran Department of History. Isabel resides in the lower Infirmary apartment.

Antxon Iturbe serves as Woodberry’s inaugural director of recruitment in the admission office as well as the coordinator of community and belonging. For the past thirteen years, Antxon has worked for St. Anne’s-Belfield School where he was a Spanish teacher, director of English Language Learning, traveling member of the admissions department, and director of residential life. Before arriving at STAB, Antxon played basketball professionally in Spain for nearly ten years after an impressive athletic career at George Washington University, where he earned his BA in economics. He also has his master’s in education from UMass-Amherst.

Michael Leahy is an assistant director in admission and varsity lacrosse coach for Woodberry. Michael was a leader on the 1999 UVa lacrosse team that won the school’s first NCAA national title since 1972. He graduated from UVa that year with a degree in history. Off the field he has worked in equity sales for a variety of national and international financial firms in both Richmond and Boston. Michael, his wife Maggie, and their children live in the Class of 2005 Faculty Residence.

Sydney Woodward joined Woodberry in 2022 after earning a degree in marketing from the College of William & Mary. She currently serves as the associate director of enrollment for outreach in the admission office. In this role, Sydney leads admission events and communications, manages the annual application process, and oversees outreach to prospective families.
