Amici: The Annual Fund

Supporting Amici and Why It Matters

One of the best-established traditions at Woodberry Forest School is its culture of philanthropy -- the tendency of those who admire the school to support it financially year, after year. Woodberry's ongoing comprehensive annual fund raising initiative, is to increase the level of annual giving the school receives from alumni, parents, and friends. Working together, these constituencies currently contribute more than $3.67 million to the Amici Fund, one of the most impressive performances among independent school annual funds in the nation. An incredible 65 percent of our alumni and 94 percent of current parents participated in this milestone achievement.
The importance of gifts to the Amici Fund cannot be overemphasized: they provide more than 10% of the school’s program costs each year. Without this support, the school would be hard-pressed to offer competitive salaries to its faculty or much-needed financial aid to deserving students.
Annual gifts, whether large or small, have true power. They are integral to Woodberry Forest’s character, and through the Amici Fund, everyone who loves Woodberry can contribute in a real way to strengthening and enriching it.

At Woodberry, we welcome participation by our alumni and offer many opportunities for their continued involvement in the school. Descriptions of several volunteer assignments follows
Class Agent: Class agents serve as the liaison between the Alumni Office and their classmates. They update their classmates' contact information; convey news of births, deaths, marriages, and general sentiments about Woodberry; encourage classmates to participate in Woodberry activities; and solicit gifts from their classmates to the Amici Fund.
Reunion Committeemen: Reunion committeemen serve as "cheerleaders" during a particular alumni reunion year by reaching out to classmates and encouraging them to attend reunion festivities.
Phonathon Dialers: Phonathon dialers donate their time to make calls to members of the Woodberry family. They update alumni, parents, or friends about upcoming school events and fundraising drives.
