Congressman Eric Cantor to Speak at Woodberry Forest Commencement

The Honorable Eric Cantor, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Virginia’s Seventh District, which includes Woodberry Forest, and the House majority leader for the 112th Congress, will deliver the 2011 commencement address at Woodberry on May 27, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. on the steps of the Residence.

Cantor, who has served in the House since 2001, was recently featured in the Weekly Standard as an emerging leader among an impressive group of “Young Guns of the House GOP.”

Cantor has served on the House Ways and Means Committee, where he was the chief sponsor of a 2006 bill to make permanent decreased individual income tax rates for capital gains and dividends. He authored the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006, which made it easier for families to establish health savings accounts. He is a former chair of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare.

A lifelong resident of the Richmond area, Cantor is a graduate of George Washington University. He earned his law degree from the College of William and Mary and a master’s degree in real estate from Columbia University.
