Spanish Students Practice Conversation with Peruvian Meal

Woodberry’s Spanish II students used a Peruvian dinner to practice common restaurant conversations and situations on October 29, 2017, in Woodberry Forest School’s Wall Room.

The menu included grilled pollo a la brasa al estilo Peruano (grilled chicken in the Peruvian style), frijoles negros (black beans), arroz (rice), yucca frita (fried yucca), and plátanos fritos (fried plantains) and was catered by La Finca, a local Peruvian restaurant. The boys worked through common situations diners encounter, ranging from the delivery of an incorrect order to discussing allergies and ingredients with a waiter.

The students had prepared for their dinner by watching short videos about Peru’s most popular dish, which is served with a variety of sauces. After dinner they talked about the food with classmates and teachers, recording some of the conversations so they can listen back to catch and fix mistakes. The students will conclude the unit by writing restaurant reviews, some of which they’ll post to an online review website.
