Woodberry Welcomes New Faculty

Nine new teachers and administrators joined Woodberry’s faculty this month ahead of the school’s 129th year.
 
 
 
Bear Bondurant, assistant director of the amici fund and alumni relations, is a 2013 Woodberry graduate. While at Woodberry he was a prefect and captain of the swimming and soccer teams. He graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill with a degree in history and political science. Bear will serve as an admission counselor and lives on C Dorm.

Jake Bonnell
, assistant director of admission and college counseling, just finished a graduate degree in education at the University of Pennsylvania. He also holds a history degree from Ohio Wesleyan University. Jake previously worked at Millsaps College in the Admission Office. He lives on B Dorm in the Walker Building.

Catherine Powell Box, associate director of admission and college counseling, comes to Woodberry from Millsaps College, where she was director of admission. She previously worked for the Educational Services Foundation in Jackson, Mississippi and is a graduate of Sewanee, The University of the South, where she began her career as an admission counselor. She is a graduate of St. Catherine’s School, where she was a boarding student. Catherine lives in the Route 15 House.

Scott Braswell
, assistant athletic director and head football coach, holds bachelors and masters degrees from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte. He spent more than twenty years as a head football coach, and eight as an athletic director, at public schools in North Carolina. Scott and his wife, Rita, have two adult sons. The Braswells live in Dowd Duplex East.

Paul Brazinski
, a member of the history faculty, is a graduate of Bucknell, where he played lacrosse and was a three-time Patriot League all-academic team member. He is completing his PhD in church history from Catholic University, with a focus on the ancient and medieval period. He will defend his dissertation in December 2017. Paul and his wife, Catherine, live in Lower Turner.

Tyler Campbell
, assistant director of communications, is a graduate of Ball State University, where he studied telecommunications with a focus on digital sports production. He was a staff member of Ball State’s Sportslink broadcast. Tyler will also serve as advisor to the Fir Tree. He lives on B Dorm in the Walker Building.

Courtney Rose Dykeman-Bermingham
is a member of the faculty working in the Academic Development Center. She graduated from Mount Holyoke College and worked last year for a private psychology practice specializing in work with children and adolescents. Courtney Rose coaches mountain biking and lives on B Dorm in the Walker Building.  

Mark O’Donnell
, a member of the math department, comes to Woodberry from Saint Anne’s-Belfield School, where he taught for twenty-seven years in third grade, fifth grade, and as an upper-school math teacher. Mark also served as upper school dean of students and has coached both the boys and girls varsity soccer teams there. He is a graduate of Colby College and holds a masters degree in education from the University of Virginia. Mark will coach JV soccer while also assisting with strength and conditioning programs. He lives in the Duncan House Apartment.

Parrish Preston
, this year’s Kenan-Lewis fellow, graduated from Washington and Lee University with a classics degree. He will teach Latin, coach indoor climbing, and work with the Woodberry Outdoor Program. He lives on B Dorm in the Walker Building.

Rachel Strahan
, associate director of communications, joined the faculty this summer after a promotion from her previous role as graphic design assistant. She is a graduate of High Point University. In her new position Rachel oversees the design and production of all printed communications sent by the school. She also coaches soccer and basketball at Madison County High School. Rachel lives in Culpeper.
