Weekend Results 1/16 - 1/17

  • The Woodberry Forest wrestling team had a great weekend competing at home.  The Tigers faced 3 teams on Friday-Collegiate, Colonial Forge 'B' and Mills Godwin.  On Saturday we held a tri-meet in the Reily Wrestling Room, entertaining Massaponax HS and Essex HS in the afternoon before semi-formal.  There were many highlights over the two days of wrestling, and the team made great strides overall as a group.  Some of the details from this weekend:
  • Kent Walker and Alex Krongard got their first pins of the season!
  • Shane Maryk continues to wrestle at a high level, going 4-1 on the weekend
  • Will Medick now holds the record for the fastest pin after taking his opponent right to his back on Friday-:06 seconds!
  • Jared Engh improved his overall record this season to 23-3 after going 5-0 Friday/Saturday
  • Andrew Holmes was able to pull out a huge victory on Saturday against Massaponax HS after a scoreless first and second period, getting a reversal and back points in the last 30 seconds
  • Roy Toston went 4-1 and dominated his opponents on his feet.
  • James Forbes wrestled extremely tough and finished 3-2
  • Cole Martini had one of the best matches of the year against a very tough opponent from Mills Godwin, and although he did not come out victorious in that match, he finished up 4-1
  • Darby Henagan continues to be the teams' solid anchor at HWT, going 4-1, losing one close match by decision 6-5.
  • DeTrea Smith got an exhibition match in as well and pinned his opponent in the first period!
