Bengal Basketball Plays Hard to the End

For the first time this season, the Bengals dropped back to back games as they lost to Flint Hill by a score of 45 - 56.  Things started off well for the Tigers.  After winning the opening tip they moved the ball around for nearly a minute on their first possession before David Little found Drew Meeks underneath the basket for the first score of the game.  On their next possession the Bengals executed a sideline out of bounds play perfectly and Edwin Borden got the ball into Marshall Deal for a 3 pointer and a 5 - 0 Woodberry lead.  The Huskies made it 5 - 4, but then the Tigers went on a 6 - 0 run.  During that run, Wallace Branche made a great backdoor cut and received the ball from David for a layup.  But then the Huskies' outside shooting got hot.  After cutting the lead to 11 - 6, Flint Hill hit 3 consecutive 3 pointers  to take a 15 - 11 lead.  The first quarter came to a close with the score 15 - 14 in favor of Flint Hill.

In the second quarter, Wallace and Drew each scored a basket for Woodberry's only points from the floor.  Wallace would finish the game with 9 points and 9 rebounds while Drew collected 5 points and 3 rebounds on the day.  The Bengals also went 5 for 11 from the line in the second period and found themselves trailing 23 - 28 at halftime.  The Huskies took control of the game early in the second half.  They began the third quarter with a 9 -2 run to open up a 12 point lead.  David Little scored 6 of his team high 14 points in the quarter to help keep the game within reach, but the Tigers still trailed 31 - 42 after three periods.

The Bengals did not go away quietly and fought hard during the final period.  Marshal scored 5 of his 12 points in the quarter and Edwin scored 3 of his 4 points on the day in the period.  David added 4 more points and Wallace and Snow Holding each went 1 for 2 from the line.  Woodberry was able to make it a 5 point game at one point, but Flint Hill made their free throws down the stretch and took away a 56 - 45 victory.

The Bengals are now 7 - 4 on the year and their next game is at home on Tuesday against Courtland High School at 4:00 pm.
