Bengal Basketball Wins on the Road

The Bengal basketball team began the New Year by earning their first road victory by defeating Trinity Episcopal School by a score of 53 - 16.  Shep Hardison, Marshall Deal, Edwin Borden, Drew Meeks and Wallace Branche were today's starting five and quickly established an early lead for the Tigers.  Marshal scored 5 of his 8 points in the first quarter and Spencer Taylor came off the bench to net 5 points to enable Woodberry to take a 17 - 4 first quarter lead.  Wallace, also played well during the first period as he pulled down 4 of his 6 rebounds and scored 2 of his 4 points.

Edwin Borden helped to keep the offense rolling in the second quarter as he scored 3 points and pulled down 2 of his 4 rebounds.  Jack Fleming added a free throw and played great defense as he came up with 2 of his 3 steals on the day.  By halftime the Bengals had built a comfortable 27 - 9 lead.  The third quarter was dominated by Drew Meeks and Teddy Szyperski.  Teddy played hard at both ends of the court and scored 6 of his 9 points in the period.  Teddy also ended the game with 3 rebounds and a steal.  Drew scored 8 of his game high 12 points and pulled down 3 of his 5 rebounds during the third quarter.  David Little added 2 of his 7 points in the period as the Tigers extended their lead to 43 - 14.

During the fourth quarter, Vas Gnanadoss hit a three pointer and Brandon Wilson added a free throw to round off the scoring.  Although they did not score in the game Shep, Brandon Gilbert and Snow Holding all played well.  Shep did a nice job running the offense and had 2 assists in the game.  Defensively, Brandon and Snow both made it difficult for the Titans in the paint.  Brandon came up with 2 rebounds while Snow had a rebound and a steal.

With the win, the Tigers are now 3 - 1 on the season.  The Bengals are back on the court tomorrow when they host Episcopal High School.
