Woodberry played the top private school in the state tougher than most schools will this year. In singles Phillip Taylor and Daniel Holst lost to two seniors that will play for Virginia Tech next year 10-2 and 10-3 respectively. At number 3 Billy Hereford came up a little short with a 10-4 score. Rob Galloway had his toughest match of the year and felt good about winning 3 games. At number 5 and number 6 Woodberry had a realistic chance of winning and played well. Tom Ellington came back from 9-4 only to lose 10-8 and Tim Perry rallied from down 9-6 only to lose 10-8. In doubles the Tigers won 4 out of 5. Rob G and Daniel were overmatched at number one and fought hard for their two games. Rags and Phillip won the last 5 games of the match at number 2. Tom and`Sam Mike had an impressive 10-3 win at number 3 doubles. The Cannon -- Peter Wilson-- and Rob Fauntleroy were in total control with a 10-3 victory at the 4th doubles. Kelvin and HK took no prisoners with a convincing 10-2 win at the 5th doubles. It should also be noted that Rob Fauntleroy played very well at number 8 singles with a 10-1 win. Flint Hill is undefeated and will be the clear favorite to win the private school state championship again.
