Several players had an opportunity to play new roles as Woodberry entertained VES on Saturday afternoon. Phillip Taylor filled in at number one and did a good job with a 6-3, 6-2 victory. Daniel Holst also played well at number two with a 6-2.8-1 win. Rob Galloway moved to the three spot and took care of business 6-1, 6-1. Tom Ellington had a tough time shifting gears when he found out he was playing number 4 singles instead of only doubles. Once he introduced himself to the opposing coach he methodically dissected his opponent 6-1,6-1 and was quickly back to entertain the visiting alumni. Tim Perry did a fine job at number five with a 6-2, 6-2 win. The Faunt--- Rob Fauntleroy -- brought the heat with his first serve and played one of his best matches of the year at number 6 as he prevailed 6-2, 6-2. Rags Coxe put on an impressive show for his grandfather and uncle with a 6-1, 6-1 victory.
There was some concern about Sam Mikell's availability for doubles as Coach Hudgins and Mikes were in a dead heat in terms of devouring the delicious brownies and chocolate chip cookies provided by Margaret Galloway. The soon to be Princeton Tiger combined with the lefty from Mt. Pleasant to win 10-6 at number 2 doubles. Robby G. and Holsty combined for a 10-6 win at number one doubles. H. K. Hallett brought his impressive net game to the party as he and Rags Coxe continued unbeaten with a 10-6 win at number 3 doubles. It was an efficient display of the significant depth of the 2008 tennis team. Thanks to all those who supported our crew today. The victory moves the overall record at this point in the season to 12-2.
