Varsity Tennis handed second loss of the season

A very determined group of St. Chris tennis players won all the close ones and handed Woodberry its second loss of the year. In singles Rob Galloway and Phillip Taylor won in straight sets. At number one Sam Funkhouser came up a little short against one of the top tennis players in the state. Daniel Holst  rallied from a set down at number 2 only to lose the third set 6-4. Billy Hereford also rallied to win the second set only to lose the third set 6-2 at number 4. Sam Mikell lost in straight sets after a very close second set at number 6 so we were down 4-2 after singles having to win all 3 doubles to pull out the match. On this day we came close but couldn't quite pull it out. Rob and Phillip won 10-5 at number two doubles. There was plenty of tension in the air as Woodberry led 9-8 at number 3 doubles and trailed 9-8 at number one doubles with Sam Funkhouser serving. In a matter of 15 minutes we ended up on the short end of both matches. At number 3 St. Chris rallied to win 11-9 and at number 1 doubles St. Chris broke Sam to win 10-8. The final result was poetic justice in some ways as Woodberry barely beat the Saints 5-4 twice last year. It was a great high school tennis match that unfortunately didn't go the Tigers way.

   Overall record 10-2

   Prep league record 3-1
