Varsity Tennis improves to 4-1 with victory over Covenant

 Woodberry tennis improved to 4-1 with a 7-2 victory over Covenant. The results were as follows:

           Sam Funkhouser defeated Brad Tulenko 10-1
           Daniel Holst defeated Steve Cho 10-8
           Billy Hereford defeated Stephen Owen 10-6
           Rob Galloway defeated John Inouye 10-3
           Tom Ellington lost to Chris Korchard 10-5
           Sam Mikell beat Kevin Parker 10-4
     
           Doubles---  
              Funkhouser- Holst beat Cho - Korchard 8-3
              Galloway- Hereford beat Luck- Tulenko 8-4
              Mikell- Ellington lost 8-5 to Inouye-Owen
 
  Highlights of the match were two outstanding comebacks in singles by Daniel Holst and Sam Mikell. Daniel came back from 7-4 to win 10-8 against a strong number 2 player. Sam Mikell came out of the gates a little slow and was down 4-1 in his return to the singles lineup. After breaking two different racquet strings in 5 minutes he ran off 9 straight games for a 10-4 victory. The 9th grade all stars (Billy and Rob) continued their impressive rookie efforts as they each moved up one position today and won. Our next home match is next Tuesday against Potomac, one of the top teams in the state.
