Lieutenant Commander, United States Navy
I served as a lieutenant in the US Navy Dental Corps from 2004 to 2008; for two of those years, I served as a department head aboard the USS Nashville (LPD 13) during deployments to the Middle East. My ship was the first ship on scene evacuating Americans from Beirut in 2006.
While on active duty, I earned qualification as a search and rescue swimmer, supposedly the first dentist to ever complete the training. I also earned qualification as a surface warfare medical department officer.
As for medals, I was awarded a Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Medal, Global War on Terror Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terror Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Sea Service Ribbon, and both pistol and rifle sharpshooter ribbons.
I completed four additional years in the inactive reserves from 2008 to 2012, during which time I was evidently promoted to lieutenant commander, though I never wore that rank in uniform.
