Football Luminary Shares Inspiration at Chapel

Spencer Tillman, a college football analyst for CBS Sports, spoke to the student body during worship in St. Andrew's Chapel at Woodberry Forest School on April 14, 2014. Spencer is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma where he played tailback and captained its national championship team. He played for the Houston Oilers and was later traded to the San Francisco 49ers, captained that team, and won a Super Bowl ring in 1991.

Spencer's message to the boys was both motivational and faith-based. He talked about his own core values -- those values borne out by "what we do, not what we say," and said that it was his own passion for speaking to leaders that prompted him to visit Woodberry Forest. Several students stayed in chapel after the service to talk more with Spencer about his football career and the lessons he learned from it.

Woodberry is indebted to Gray Robertson ’16 and his father Robbie Robertson for inviting Spencer Tillman to the Forest.
