Davidson Basketball Coach Addresses Students

Bob McKillop, head basketball coach at Davidson College, spoke to students on October 14, 2013, about making their life's dreams come true by achieving success and excellence little by little. He shared the philosophy that guides his team, a code of honor comprising the values of truth, commitment, and caring. Using examples from his twenty-four years at Davidson, Bob delivered his inspirational message as he walked among the boys in Bowman Gray Auditorium. "I am one of you," he told them, and had them repeat after him, "I am what I think I am. I can become what I think I can become."

Bob McKillop is a native New Yorker and a graduate of Hofstra University. Since becoming head coach at Davidson College in 1989, he has won more games than any other coach in the college's history and more Southern Conference games than any other coach in the conference's history. Most importantly his players have earned the program a perfect Academic Progress Rate every year since the NCAA began tracking graduation rates.

Bob frequently visits Woodberry Forest to spend time with his daughter, Kerrin Heil; his son-in-law, Henry Heil, Woodberry's assistant dean of students; and his two granddaughters.
