Sixth Formers Receive Scholarships

Members of Woodberry Forest School's Class of 2013 were awarded over $650,000 in merit-based scholarships for the upcoming academic year. Offers ranged from smaller, program-specific awards to the most prestigious scholarships granted by an institution. Notable awards accepted by sixth formers include the Academic Elite Scholarship at the University of Alabama (Faulkner Hereford), the Jefferson Scholarship at the University of Virginia (Will Tucker), and the Morehead-Cain Scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (McKenzie Folan). Four seniors also received ROTC scholarships through various military branches. They include Connor Forrest, Peter Shelton, John Taylor, and Haynes Zaytoun.

In addition to scholarship recognition through individual universities, ten sixth formers were recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation earlier this year. Nick Evans, McKenzie Folan, Faulkner Hereford, Zach Hollander, Charlie Lin, and Peter Shelton were named National Merit Commended Scholars for their performance on last year’s PSAT/National Merit Qualifying Test. Michael Bauer, McGregor Joyner, Charlie Lucas, and Will Tucker received the organization’s highest designation, National Merit Finalist. Ian Edwards was recognized as an Outstanding Participant in the National Achievement Scholarship program. Commended Scholars placed among the top five percent of the more than 1.5 million students who entered the competition nationally and Finalists represent approximately the top 15,000 participants.

We congratulate all members of the Class of 2013 on their successes throughout the college application and scholarship process.
