Students Initiated into Cum Laude Society

Twenty-two fifth and sixth formers were initiated into the Cum Laude Society on April 16, 2012. The high school honor society recognizes up to twenty percent of the students of each class who exhibit values that, according to academic dean Stephen Culbertson, parallel those of Woodberry Forest School: excellence, justice, and honor. The Woodberry Forest Chapter was established in 1952, and all faculty members who were Phi Beta Kappa members are considered to be members of the society.

After the initiation ceremony, students were treated to the remarks of Dr. Nan Keohane, former president of Wellesley College and Duke University, and Dr. Robert Keohane, a distinguished political scientist who has chaired the government department at Harvard and has taught at Stanford, Duke, and Princeton. Dr. Nan Keohane shared her insights on leadership with the assembled student body, while Dr. Robert Keohane spoke to the boys on a more personal level, advising them about the qualities they should look for in a partner and paying tribute to his wife who shared the stage with him. The Keohanes are the grandparents of Jacob Keohane '12 and Isaac Keohane '13.

Please see the program for more on the inductees and the guest speakers.
