Tennis drops close one to NA

On another winter like afternoon Woodberry came up a little short against the Bulldogs of Norfolk Academy. In singles Rags survived 4 shots that hit the net and trickled over in key situations to win in a 3rd set tiebreaker 10-6. Billy  Hereford had another dramatic match as he fought hard to win the first set tiebreaker and then unveiled a new underhand serve winner to prevail 7-6, 6-4. At number 3 John Clement won the first set but couldn't quite finish his opponent and lost in a 3rd set tiebreaker. Henry Dyke ran into a very consistent year round tournament player and came in second. Lem Doss had a strong effort at number 5 singles with a 6-4.6-2 victory for our third point. Kelvin returned to the lineup at number 6 singles, but did not have his usual strong baseline game in rhythm. So it was 3-3 after singles.

In doubles Billy and Rags started slowly, but rallied to win 8-5. Unfortunately our other two teams were unable to find the elusive 5th point to win the team match. Lat and John Clement lost 8-5 at number 2 doubles and Gray and Lem were  on the short end of a 8-2 score at number 3 doubles. Final score Norfolk Academy 5 Woodberry 4
