Woodberry Students Celebrate Chinese Moon Festival

With the full moon of September 23, 2010, overhead, Woodberry Chinese teacher Scott Navitsky and a group of his students celebrated Zhongqiu-jie, the Mid-Autumn or Moon Festival.

This 3,000-year-old harvest festival, which occurs on the first full moon on or after August 25, is very popular with Chinese families, who use the occasion to gather with friends, exchange gifts, and eat moon cakes.

Woodberry’s event took a decidedly academic direction, as students recited poetry by Li Bai and Shu Shi.
