The 2009-10 issue of Woodberry's literary magazine, The Talon, earned a gold medalist rating from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA), a program affiliated with the Graduate School of Journalism at Columbia University.
The Talon, under the direction of faculty adviser Karen Broaddus, participated in the CSPA's annual medalist critque, a teaching tool which provides detailed guidance on how well a student print or online media project is progressing, and how it could improve. The Talon earned All-Columbian honors in the areas of design and organization, scoring at the ninety-fifth percentile or higher in two out of the three judged categories.
Editors of the award-winning issue (pictured) are John Bolen '10, Weyland Joyner '10, Ava Lonergan '11, and Wilson Tarbox '10. Other contributors to the issue are junior editors Bryce Peppers '11 and Charles Perkins '11, and editorial assistant Jason Hill '12.
The CSPA is an international student press association, founded in 1925, whose goal is to unite student journalists and faculty advisers at schools and colleges through educational conferences, idea exchanges, textbooks, critiques, and award programs.
