Wrestling: Forest Park Duals Summary

The Varsity Wrestling team traveled to the Forest Park Duals this past weekend to compete in our first matches of the season.  The competition was tough AA and AAA public schools from the Manassas and Northern Virginia area.  We opened with a solid victory over Fairfax High School with a team score of 40-35.  We then dropped a disappointing loss to the host Forest Park team.  Against Forest Park we gave up too many pins to pull out the victory and we lost 37-40.  Junior Will Sutherland recorded his first varsity win against Forest Park in a solid win.  Freshman Bobby Burg had a very nice win over a tough Forest Park senior who he defeated 3-1.  For the last match on Friday night we rebounded with a decisive victory over Tabb high school 52-18.  Sophomores, James Peebles and Will Csorba recorded their first Varsity wins as a Tigers in the match against Tabb.

On Saturday the Tigers defeated Liberty High School with a score of 52-27.  There was a three way tie for first in our pool because each of the teams had one loss.  Woodberry won the tie breaker because of the total number of points that we scored.  We wrestled Fauquier in the finals in a hard fought loss 12-51.  Fauquier is the number 7 ranked AAA team in the state.  Freshman Bobby Burg lost in triple overtime to senior David Yost of Fauquier the number one ranked AAA wrestler in the state at 130 pounds.

Overall Wilson Maclin was our only undefeated wrestler with a record of 5-0.  Bobby Burg, Tyrek Jones, and Ford Schwing were all 4-1 on the weekend.

I am very proud of the boy's efforts this weekend and they represented the hard work that they have been putting into practice.  Our next competition is this weekend at the NOVA Classic at Fairfax High School in Northern Virginia.
