Tigers Win in Overtime

In one of the most intense, exciting games Haynes Field has seen, the Tigers prevailed over Fork Union in overtime. Woodberry’s defense forced five turnovers, including two interceptions by Preston Stone and two fumble recoveries by Al Williams. The Tiger offense came alive, pounding the ball for 163 rushing yards. They scored two rushing touchdowns, and relied on kicker George Stephen for two field goals. Woodberry appeared to have the game won when, with 41 seconds remaining, FUMA linebacker Jamil Shaw returned a fumble into the end zone. The ensuing extra point forced overtime. On FUMA’s possesion, Preston Stone intercepted Jahmeal Quarles-Belt on the goal line. Woodberry ended the game on the next play, with a ten yard touchdown from Chase Boyer to Danny Martinez.
