    Chase Spong ’10 serves as director of admission and tuition assistance. He holds a bachelor's degree in history from the College of William & Mary and a master's degree in education from Vanderbilt University. Mr. Spong, his wife, Winston, and son live in the New Duplex West.

    Karla Vargas-Kennedy is assistant headmaster and director of enrollment management.
     
    Ms. Vargas-Kennedy has deep experience with single-sex schools and boarding schools. She previously served as director of enrollment management at Foxcroft School, an all-girls boarding school, since 2017 and began her career as a Spanish teacher and dorm master at Mercersburg Academy. She also has extensive experience in the college admission and financial aid world, serving at Cornell University, the University of Chicago Law School, Our Lady of the Lake University, and Green Mountain College.
     
    She holds a bachelor's degree in comparative Literature and Latin American and Caribbean Studies from the State University of New York at Binghamton and a masters degree in educational leadership from Western New Mexico University. Ms. Vargas-Kennedy is pursuing her doctoral degree in educational leadership from St. Thomas University. Her husband, Rusty Kennedy, is the president of Andrew College. They live in the Edwards House.

    Makhail Anderson '19 serves as assistant director of admission. He holds a bachelor's degree in English from Wofford College. Most recently he was a public relations intern at the Southern Maryland Minority Chamber of Commerce in Waldorf, MD. Makhail will live in House E and will do dorm duty in Walker.

    Craig Dawson came to Woodberry in 2012 as an assistant director of admission and head varsity basketball coach. He is a 2002 graduate of Wake Forest University, where he played varsity basketball for four years. He has coached extensively at the secondary level. Mr. Dawson lives in the Epes House.

    Emma joins the admission office as an assistant director of admission. Emma grew up on the Mercersburg Academy campus and is a 2023 graduate of Davidson College, where she majored in Math. Emma is responsible for helping the admission office develop and implement a new enrollment system, travel for the school, and work alongside the admission team to enroll a new class of Tigers. Emma lives in the Lower Dick Gym Rear Apartment.

    Michael Leahy is an assistant director in admission and varsity lacrosse coach for Woodberry. Michael was a leader on the 1999 UVa lacrosse team that won the school’s first NCAA national title since 1972. He graduated from UVa that year with a degree in history. Off the field he has worked in equity sales for a variety of national and international financial firms in both Richmond and Boston. Michael, his wife Maggie, and their children live in the Class of 2005 Faculty Residence.

    Duke Sherrell ’15 joined the Woodberry Admission office in 2022 after serving two years at Pace Academy in Georgia, where he taught history, coached football and wrestling, and served as the upper school diversity and inclusion coordinator. Mr. Sherrell earned his bachelor’s degree and a master’s of education in urban education at Rhodes College, where he also played football. He lives in the Dowd Pod apartment.
