Joe Coleman Appointed Dean of Students at Woodberry Forest

Joe Coleman ’79 will become assistant headmaster and dean of students for Woodberry Forest School effective August 1, 2011. Most recently assistant headmaster and dean of admissions, he has served the school for the past fifteen years.

“Joe has served this school with great distinction,” said Headmaster Dennis Campbell in announcing the appointment. “In his time as director of admissions, the members of Woodberry’s admissions team have consistently done an outstanding job and have been recognized nationally for excellence. I am grateful to him for agreeing to take on the important responsibilities of dean of students.”

Joe succeeds Anthony Sgro, Woodberry’s dean of students since 2006 and a faculty member since 1999, who will become headmaster of Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in Georgia on July 1.

Woodberry will immediately begin a search for a new director of admissions. The search will be directed by Devereaux McClatchey, president of Carney, Sandoe and Associates of Boston.
