"deliberations" Mixed-media Paintings by Sharon Zarambo on Exhibit

The mixed media paintings in deliberations reflect her interest in found materials, surface variation, patterns, and rich colors. Many of her pieces have a resin coating on which she applies acrylic paint to achieve both a vibrant surface as well as the illusion of depth. Inspired by Outsider art, she uses an intuitive approach in her art-making to explore spiritual themes. Of her recent work, Sharon Zarambo says: "I'm fond of the color red. For me, it's a power color and transmits energy. And the circle represents coming full-circle, back to the beginning with new information."
She admires the directness of the Outsider artists who "follow no rules but create from the heart." Although her process can be exceedingly labor intensive, with elaborate dot patterns requiring hours of work, she hopes the viewer "comes away with more than an appreciation for how long something took to create, but see the joy and love that I put into each piece."

There is an opening reception for this exhibition in the Baker Gallery of the Walker Fine Arts Center at Woodberry Forest School on Friday, January 12 from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. The artist will give a brief talk at 6:30. The event is free and open to the public.

Woodberry Forest School is located 4 miles north of Orange on Route 15. For more information contact Kelly Lonergan at 540-672-3900.
