History Students Visit Baltimore's Walters Art Museum

Fifth and sixth formers in Dr. Anthony Watson’s classes traveled to Baltimore on November 1, 2017, to study at The Walters Art Museum.

Members of Tony’s China and the World  visited the museum’s East Asian galleries, paying particular attention to the many Buddhist religious statues on display. The class has studied the spread of Buddhism into China in recent weeks.
Students in Caliphs and Kings explored the Islamic and early Christian galleries. The course examines the development of Christianity and Islam, as well as the way the two religions have interacted with each other, particularly in the Middle East. Members of “Caliphs and Kings” were joined on their tour of the Walters by Paul Brazinski, a history instructor at Woodberry whose graduate work focused on medieval church history.

After the guided tours, students had an opportunity to explore the museum’s other galleries before an Italian lunch at Trinacria Cafe.
