Student Earns Eagle Helping Birds at the Forest

Catesby Jones ’18 earned his Eagle rank on April 14, 2017, in a Court of Honor held on the Woodberry Forest School campus.  The event was an important landmark in Catesby's scouting career.  He carried out his Eagle project on campus by building and installing bluebird houses around the school's 1,200-acre campus.

As a member of Troop 100, Catesby worked with Tim Stakem, scoutmaster of the historic Woodberry troop, and Denis Houyoux, who helped him learn to use the school’s shop tools to construct the bird houses.  The Court of Honor was conducted by Tracey Stakem, Troop 100 committee chair, and included a candle lighting ceremony.  Friends and family members, including Catesby's father, Catesby Jones ’83, and his scouting mentor, Kip Rollins, were in attendance for the ceremony held in Dunnington Recital Hall in the Walker Fine Arts Center.

Photos of the event are available on the Woodberry Forest Photo Album.
