Baker Gallery Presents Exploraciones

Paintings by Diego Sanchez, a native of Colombia, are on exhibit in January and February in Woodberry Forest School's Baker Gallery. Exploraciones, opens Thursday, January 5, 2016, with a reception from 6:30 to 7:30 pm and features a gallery talk by the artist.

Educated at Virginia Commonwealth University and serving as the chair of the art department at St. Catherine's School in Richmond, Mr. Sanchez has shown internationally and his work appears in several collections, including the Anderson Gallery and the College of William and Mary.

Of his painting experience, Diego Sanchez says: "For the past fourteen years my approach to my work reflects my love for the act of painting, for the process itself rather that the final product. Painting to me is about process, whether you are developing a surface, mixing the right color or figuring out a different way to approach a problem. Painting to me is a fluid activity that changes as I change. Painting requires discipline and time. Developing a painting to me is an activity that can be frustrating, rewarding, and humbling."
