Faculty Members Awarded with Chairs and Masterships
Six faculty members received new chairs and masterships during the underformer awards assembly on May 21. They joined other members of the faculty who hold the chairs and masterships that generous alumni and friends have established to honor teaching excellence at Woodberry.
Matthew Keating, a member of the faculty since 2000 who teaches math and computer science and chairs the Mathematics Department, received the Quantitative Foundation Chair for Computer Science. He is the first person to hold the chair.
Nolan LaVoie, a member of the faculty since 2012, teaches in the History Department and is director of the Outdoor Education Program. He received the Fondren Foundation Mastership.
Curtis Phillips, a member of the faculty since 2010, is a physics teacher and track coach and received the R. Thurmond Chatham 1915 Mastership.
Michael Szydlowski, who joined the faculty in 1983, is a member of the Mathematics Department and director of tuition assistance and received the Orin E. Atkins Mastership.
Alex Tisch, who joined the faculty in 2010, is a physics teacher and a football and wrestling coach and received the Richard F. Barnhardt '66 Mastership. He is the first person to hold the mastership.
Phoebe Warmack, a member of the faculty since 2007, is the director of the William H. White, Jr. Library and received the William H. White Jr. 1900 Mastership.
