J. Warner Wells II ’87

Major, North Carolina Army National Guard

The above photograph is of me serving in Iraq.

I graduated in the Class of ’87. I am in the North Carolina Army National Guard, having served nineteen years of active and reserve status. I was deployed to Iraq in OIF II, 2004–2005. In addition, I have served in Germany, Puerto Rico, and across the United States. I am currently a major (promotable) and will soon pin on my lieutenant colonel rank in the next two months. I have been honored and humbled to receive the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (two stars), and several others.

In the picture, I am holding a young Kurdish boy in the town of Tuz Khurmatu. Our unit was delivering food stuff to the Iraqi police compound to share with the rest of the community in celebrating the end of Ramadan.
Go Tigers!!
